Academic Leave
Eagle Academy has many mitigating factors in place to better ensure student success. Among them are:
- A 4-day school week
- Afternoon/evening schedule, allowing students to maintain jobs
- No homework - everything is done during class time
- More personalized learning
- Smaller class sizes
- A 4-person Mental Health team to meet students’ social-emotional needs
- Family atmosphere where students feel cared for, seen and heard
Given this, the expectation is that students who struggled in the traditional high school setting will have a better chance for success at Eagle Academy. When a student is not being successful, despite these mitigating factors in place, they are placed on Academic Leave for a quarter. LEAVE is considered a “time out” to assess and hopefully correct the obstacles through counseling and family outreach, while still earning some credit. The Academic Leave Agreement outlines the expectations for successfully completing Academic Leave, whereby students are allowed back in-seat the following quarter.
